Exploring 360º Spherical Video as A Teaching Tool: Insights and Lessons Learned

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Educators, researchers and design teams continue to look for innovative solutions to better support lab-based and field-based instruction in online learning environments. The emergence of practical interactive 360º video capture, virtual reality technologies and distribution mechanisms have provided new approaches for capturing real-world situations, expert demonstrations and delivery of instructional content.  With these technologies, students can observe (visually and aurally) a recorded situation while retaining the ability to look around in any direction via mouse, touch pad, mobile device, Google Cardboard or other HMDs (head-mounted displays).
The Instructional Innovations Services group within NC State's Distance Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA) organization has partnered with faculty across campus to continue our mission of transforming educational experiences and developing innovative technologies and pedagogies to solve instructional challenges. We believe 360º video and virtual reality provide interactions and methods for presenting instructional content that differs from traditional video and may result in a measurable impact on student success.
Join us for a reflective presentation of insights and lessons learned over the course of an academic year investigating and testing the gadgets, ideas and instructional design behind interactive 360º video technologies to support field-based learning experiences.
